Maynard’s Excelsior is a Lake Minnetonka institution. It sits right on the wharf at Excelsior Bay, with a huge multi-level patio, an outdoor bar and a guest dock where boats pull right up all summer long. On a warm Saturday the deck is packed, and plenty of the crowd arrives by water.

The menu is big and easygoing: burgers, salads, stir-fry and plenty of fish. Inside there’s a cozy dining room and bar for cooler nights, and in winter you’ll see snowmobiles parked out front instead of boats. It’s locally owned, and it’s the kind of place that works for a family dinner, a group after a day on the lake or a Bootleg on the patio.
